ESRA ABACİOĞLU AKCAN - Soprano : Biography
Esra Abacioğlu, who started to pursue her education
at The Faculty of Music and Performing Arts of Bilkent
University in 1989, began studying under Gölge
Şekeramber, one of the soloists of Ankara State Opera
She started her Master’s Degree in 1996 and found an opportunity to study under various estimable artists. In 1999, she became the first graduate of the Master’s Degree at the Department of Vocal Training in Bilkent University and she attended Leyla Gencer’s vocal training seminar.
In 1999, she succeeded in the exam which was carried out by Antalya State Opera and Ballet, gained attention as a rising young soprano and became the first soprano artist in this establishment.
She performed the premiere performance of “La Traviata”, that was the first opera of Antalya State Opera and Ballet, as her role “Violette” in 2000. The artist had a great success with her role “Violetta” on season opening performances at Aspendos Antique Theatre on the 8th, 9th and 10th Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festivals (years 2001-2002-2003). She completed totally 10 performances for Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival, including years 2004 and 2005.
Her premiere as the title role “Hanna Glavari” at Lehar’s “Merry Widow” operetta won much attention in 2001.
She also performed a premiere Gaetano Donizetti’s “L’Elisir D’amone” opera as the role “Adina” in 2002. In the same year, she also performed W.A. Mozart’s “Requiem” and then she went to Austria, where she started her carrier studies under Kammersängerin Prof. Margarita Lilova.
During the same period Abacioğlu found opportunity to work with important names as Conductor Max Cencic, Prof. Ernst Maerzendorfer, Prof. Frank Fanning and Correpetitor James Pierson and performed in various concerts at Vienna State Opera (Wiener Staatsoper).
Between 1999 and 2004, she participated lots of concerts as soloist and performed the role “Musetta” in opera Giacomo Puccini’s “La Boheme” and the role “Ay Tanrıça (Moon Goddess)” in F. Tüzün’s “Midas’ın Kulakları” (Ears of Midas) in 2004.
Esra Abacioğlu has been working at Ankara State Opera and Ballet since 2005 and she successfully performed roles La Traviata – “Violetta”, Don Pasquale – “Norina”, La Boheme – “Musetta” many times.
The soprano has performed in Istanbul and Ankara between 2005 - 2007 and made her recording of Chopin Lieds with pianist and instructor Maria Nowotna in 2006.
Abacioğlu performed a recital composed of the works of W.A. Mozart, Giuseppe Verdi, Gaetano Donizetti, Richard Strauss and Leonard Bernstein at Vienna Konzert Haus Schubert-Saal on 24 April 2008.
She also performed “Elettra” of W.A.Mozart’s “Idomeneo Opera” in 2009 - 2010 season. She participated in "The Abduction from the Seraglio" Opera on Aspendos International Festival in 2010 and 2011 seasons.
During the same year, she performed Beethoven’s “Ah! Perfido” with Pianist Kamerhan Turan at Konzert Haus Schubert-Saal. Later, she carried out interpretation studies of "The Abduction from the Seraglio" and “Ariadne auf Naxos” operas in Vienna.
Esra Abacioğlu performed in a program called “Liederabend” composed of Mozart, Schubert, Chopin, Lizst, Rachmaninof, Yalcin Tura and Selman Ada’s lieds with Mag. Dieter Paier in Vienna at Bösendorfer Concert Hall in 2011 and she performed Mozart, Lizst, Rossini and Richard Strauss’ lieds at the same concert hall in 2012.
In 2013 she joined International North Aegean Festival and there she studied with Diva Cheryl Studer and performed many concerts in Athene, Mytillini, Chios.
In 2013 she also performed in “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” as Blonde in Aspendos Festival.
She performed in “Die Fledermaus” as Rosalinde. Then she sang in “I Puritani” as Elvira at Ankara State Opera House. In that period she also sang in many concerts and joined the festivals.
In 2015 she engaged Istanbul State Opera House.
Abacioğlu, pursuing her career as a soloist with Istanbul State Opera and Ballet since 2015, continues her domestic and international career.
While Esra Abacioğlu is developing her musical culture with Akademi Akcan Music Ballet Dance Training Center in Ankara, she continues to support art with Turkey's Single True Classical Music Magazine, "Opus Classical Music Magazine".
